Up2U

Is a Peer Education group project that operates in the Tweeddale area and provides accurate information to young people on issues relating to drugs, alcohol and sexual health. In general this is done through a Schools' Programme developed by the group and presented to all Primary 7 pupils. The format entails groups of Up2U members (4th, 5th, 6th year pupils from Peebles High School) attending 4 or 5 sessions with the primary school pupils and discussing relevant information on drugs and alcohol. The dangers of smoking are also covered. Up2U also organise discos, band nights and other events throughout the area to provide much needed alternatives for young people. As well as offering advice on drug and alcohol related matters, the Group run a peer counselling service within Peebles High School. This is provided by trained 5th and 6th year students who dpeebles vieweal with vulnerable youngsters referred by Guidance Staff.
