Support & Advice for Young People

Big River Project

Is a free, specialist service for people who live in the Borders and whose lives are affected by drugs, either through personal use or by someone else. The service is open to all and is totally confidential.
Support, advice, information, advocacy and counselling form the main core of the work, but Big River also offer practical help with housing, finances and health and needle exchange. The staff are trained to offer complementary therapies to help with detox, stress and anxiety. Big River also works closely with the Scottish Borders Criminal Justice Team to deliver SORTID a project designed to Stop Offences Related To Illicit Drugs.

Children 1st

Offer a range of services to children and families throughout the Scottish Borders, including two different services for young people. The first is called Family Group Conferencing Meetings, which can help when there are concerns about whether a young person can continue to live at home, or for their welfare and safety.
Children 1st also offer support and information for young people who have been affected by emotional, physical or sexual abuse - any contact is in confidence.
