25th/26th March 2008 & 30th April 2008
This three-day Practice Based Workshop is aimed at intermediate practitioners who have prior knowledge or experience of Motivational Interviewing. It is considered necessary that practitioners will have attended a previous introduction to Motivational Interviewing course. Participants work must involve having a 'case load' as they will be expected to bring a case to work on between the 2nd and 3rd day using motivational interviewing. The overall aim of the workshop is to ensure the further development of practice skills of professional staff addressing drug and alcohol misuse through providing a safe environment in which participants can work on problem based learning by sharing their experiences. An expert practitioner in the field of Motivational Interviewing will lead this training.
The workshop takes place over an initial two days, which is then followed by a recall day several weeks later. The course is designed for a maximum of 12 participants.
The main aim of the first two-days is to revisit the principles of Motivational Interviewing, to focus on micro skills and to put these in context within this style of intervention. This is achieved through a programme of presentation, discussions and skill based practical sessions. The final day of the workshop gives the participants the opportunity to reflect on the impact of their newly acquired skills on their current practice.
