Youth Chex Update

In December 2007, Phase 2 of Leader+ funded Youth Chex sadly came to a close. We would like to express our deepest thanks to all involved in Leader+ and the other funders for their support for what has been an innovative and proactive project. We have had many great successes through Youth Chex, and as such we the panel members are eager to continue and fundraise for a Phase 3. So, watch this space!!!!

What is Youth Chex?

youth chex on the greenyouth chex on the greenYouth Chex is a project that puts you in charge. You as young people decide what type of projects you want to do giving you, not adults, the money to do it.

We are glad to announce that Scottish Natural Heritage has enabled us to carry forward our environmental spend, and we now have £4800 environmental spend and thanks to Youth Link we have £1000 for general spend.

Youth Chex Funding Extension now closed

The second extension of Youth Chex funding until 31st October is now closed. Thanks to all those who applied, you should hear back shortly from the relevant panel.

Pending a further 7 applications, young people's panels will have granted  £102,000 since June 2005 on young people's projects throughout the Borders. No mean feat, so well done to all the applicants, panel members as well as the workers and volunteers who supported young people through this learning process.

Nationwide national nomination

Great news - Youth Chex was chosen to represent our region as a National Finalist in the Young People Group Category of The Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour!!!!! unfortunately we didn't win however we did conquer Scotland which proves once again that the hard work put in from all the panel members is being recognised throughout. Well done!

The ceremony took place at Lord's Cricket Ground, in London on Tuesday 13 November. Two representatives from Youth Chex went down.
